The music festival season feels a long, long way off right now (although we wouldn’t say no to a pear cider if you’re offering) but these days you’ve got to book mega early if you want to be happy campers come summer. Many dates for 2017 have already been released and the biggies sell out fast – we haven’t managed to score Glastonbury tickets for years – but the good news is lots of the local events still have availability and most of them are family friendly.Read more

I’m not one want to show off but, seriously, check out my moves. Oh alright, this isn’t me and no matter how many yoga classes I do in 2017 it aint ever going to be – I’m as flexible as a steel spoon. If you find exercising in this freezing weather a struggle (well that’s my excuse anyway) then maybe a hot 37° could persuade you to don the lycra. Hotpod Yoga has just launched in Cambridgeshire this month, and it’s guaranteed to make you sweat.Read more
You know how you have to exercise but as January moves on you can’t quite force yourself into lycra? A brisk walk along the banks of the Great River Ouse at Houghton Meadows could be exactly what you and yours need to blow away the cobwebs without having to put on your sweat bands. It’s an easy flat circular route and although much is over grass if you’ve got an off-roader buggy it will handle the ground easily.Read more
Bank account is empty (or is that just mine?), trousers just don’t want to do up and the weather is blinking freezing (hey I’m doing my best to cheer you up) – January’s a long month to get through. Nothing for it but to grab those fluffy socks, a warm throw, make yourself a cup of something hot and stick your nose in a good read.

If you love the idea of singing in a choir but find Gareth Malone-style material too twee for your tastes, this could be the tra-la-la you’ve been looking for. Cambridge has a new choral kid on the block, exciting and definitely quirky and with the name ‘Vocal Remix’- this ain’t no traditional choir.
If you can squeeze out a few Do-Re-Mi’s and are up for something new, then a good warble could be just the ticket.Read more
You know those pubs where you’ve driven past a hundred times but somehow they never entice you to try them out? That’s how I’d always felt about the unassuming The Mermaid Inn, in the quiet village of Ellington just off the A14 a few miles west of Huntingdon, but the other day I tried some of their delicious canapés at a party and couldn’t stop scoffing them. So I did what any self-respecting glutton would do – grabbed my husband and dragged him along to try out the pub.Read more

X marks the spot at the awesome Poco Kids store which I happily stumbled across the other day while looking for a newborn gift for my friend’s baby girl. Let me tell you, this shop makes me almost want to have another child! (yeah, I said almost). I was so taken with this cute Tinycottons hat (£33); in a Merino blend for extra comfort and one size fits all but alas it starts at age 2-8 so that was off the gift options for the baby (though not for my daughter – I may go back!).Read more
