Mamma Mia – it’s back!
Muddy Northants has been beating the January blues by enjoying a trip to the Royal and Derngate to enjoy Mamma Mia, the stellar feel-good musical. Over to you Anna-lou…
It’s a cold damp in January In Northants, so where better to head to than a warm Greek island?
You won’t even need to imagine that over the next couple of weeks as the solution is on your doorstep. Dust off your platforms, as MAMMA MIA! The Musical has hit Northampton town. OK, a week on a Greek island would be ideal right now, but this particular escape package, complete with all of it’s laughter, and raucous entertainment was only a twenty minute car journey for me and there was no need to negotiate passport control at the fabulous Royal & Derngate. So for me, it’s where my thirst for summertime Ouzo and my bed time cocoa collides. In fact I write this blog post now that I’ve headed back to my double duvet – still beaming from a great show and with Abba’s greatest ringing in my ears. Knowing me, knowing you, you have to get tickets if you can.
MAMMA MIA!, the worlds sunniest and most exhilarating smash hit musical, is the best of both worlds for us Northants Muddies this Winter and I just loved the whole show.
What a performance Mini Muddy and I saw tonight. What an ensemble of Super Troupers on stage. As a quick reminder of the plot, it’s a story of love, friendship and identity, cleverly told through the timeless songs of ABBA. Our heroine, Sophie is on a quest to discover the father she’s never known and brings her mother (played and sung brilliantly by the excellent Helen Robson) face to face with three men from her distant romantic past on the eve of a wedding they’ll never forget. So will it be Harry, Bill or Sam that walk her down the aisle? You’ll just have to grab a ticket and find out for yourself.
There aren’t many people who haven’t already seen the all star cast of the Hollywood movie hit belt out the tunes of Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus but believe me, this live performance takes it to another level and with so many stellar individual performances on show from the cast I defy you not to be on your feet bringing out your own Dancing Queen and joining in with the joy of it all.
So if it’s a feel good February that you’re after (or desperately need) then this is the show for you. There are still tickets available until this touring production of the multi award winning musical finishes it’s run at the Royal and Derngate on Sat 3 Feb. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed. There are matinee and evening performances to look forward to with prices starting at £15. Find out more just here…
