Review – The Style Edit
Muddy reviews the region's newest fashion, shopping, food and drink event. Set in the countryside, and in support of local retailers and charities, The Style Edit is going from strength to strength.
The Style Edit is the regions’s latest exciting venture into all things fashion, style, shopping, food and drink. Held over two nights at the Granary Estates in Woodditton (about 15 miles east of Cambridge and 4 miles south of Newmarket on the Cambs/Suffolk border) The Style Edit is the culmination of the hard work of the ‘Style Squad’ – five ladies who want to celebrate our local talent, raise money for charity and have a great time doing so. The Granary Estates is a unique venue showcasing some beautifully renovated barns and surrounded by acres of lush countryside, it really is a hidden gem.
There was a pleasantly buzzy atmosphere on the Friday night that Muddy attended, perhaps due in part to the Friday night effect. Inside the barns local independent retailers had set up their stalls and there were plenty of browsing and shopping opportunities before the fashion show. Outside was a relaxed, party atmosphere and complimentary Pinksters pink gin cocktails littered the tables as people milled around looking at the stalls or just sat and caught up with friends, enjoying the last of the evening’s sun.
The whole format and feel of the evening was well judged; there was enough time to get in some shopping (or browsing whilst taste testing the best brownies from Cocoa May) before the fashion show began, and the venue has enough space and versatility to accommodate steady trickles of people. The fashion show feels like the main event, though, and showcased national brands like John Lewis, Joules and Ted Baker as well as local retailers using volunteer models who all did a sterling job. You can find the full list of brands on display here.
The Muddy Verdict
This is a unique event and one that we can only keep singing the praises of here at Muddy. Everyone involved produced a great show, and we hope it continues to grow and be supported by the local community as an event and as a format. There is also a question of how children might also be involved, particularly as some friends commented that their fashion/shopping obsessed daughters would have loved it. Rumour has it that the next Style Edit will be held in the Autumn. Keep your eyes peeled!
