Oooh, hello David Lloyd summer camp!

Swimming pool

OK, this is a bit of a newsflash in case you’re struggling to find something sporty to do with your kids this summer. I know that lots of private gyms offer kids courses over half term and summer, but it’s just reached my Muddy ear that David Lloyd gym in Cambridge is running a whopper kids program this summer, and – guess what – you don’t actually have to be a member to boot your kids in there!  That, my friends, is awesome news, because David Lloyd is super family-friendly and kid-smart, with some of the best gym facilities in the city.

I’m totally sold on this summer camp and I’m booking my kids in for a few days – but just so you know, you can drop your kids from 8am (for a 9am start) and pick them up at 6pm (the course finishes at 5pm but they can do a free session in the kids area until you deign to return).

David Lloyd Cambridge, Tennis

The facilities are brilliant here as you’d expect with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and tennis courts. Every day on the course kids can channel their inner Konta, Daley or Broad as they get to play a mixture of sports including football, cricket, tennis and rugby.  Incorporated into each day are arts and crafts, free play, playground games as well as a swim and, unlike most private clubs I’ve come across locally, it’s a 25 metre indoor job and a 20m outdoor.

If you’re lucky enough to be a member, you can also work in the café, dip in for a swim or work out (or, um, have another coffee), and smile in the knowledge that your kids are nowhere near technology for the entire day.

Member or not, if you’re shaking your head at the perceived expense of the DL kids club … mais non! Deliciously, a half day for non-members is £24, or a full day is £35  – or it’s £140 for the week for non-members (members you can feel smug as for your it’s £126).

David Lloyd Cambridge Cafe

The café. I’m planning to make it my home for the next few weeks!

The summer camps are for age 5 upwards, and they will provide morning and afternoon snacks and lunches so that headache is avoided!  It’s not easy to find information about the activity programmes on the website (probably as they get booked up quickly) but your trusty Muddy editor has sniffed the details out (pass me a medal) so if you’re keen contact Yaz, as I did on

I’m bringing out a headline list of best summer courses tomorrow but couldn’t wait on this one as I reckon it’s going to get booked out mega quick. Limber up with me in the café for some serious flat white lifting reps.
