The perfect kaftan from new designers Harper Scout Beach that will take you from beach to bar.
Travelling light is always a tricky one for me and despite best efforts I’m not sure that 6 pairs of shoes is going to avoid me sitting on a bulging suitcase trying not to bust the zip! This year I’m determined to nail this capsule holiday wardrobe and first off is to buy a versatile cover-up that will take me from beach to bar and onto the evening, and I’ve found just the ticket in Harper Scout Beach.
Lucy and Corinne, an interior designer and a stylist combo, saw a gap in the market for chic beachwear and last year Harper Scout was born. They’ve recently launched their second collection with new patterns and styles that suit every shape. There’s nothing too sheer or short and some styles have drapey sleeves if you’re not planning on hitting the gym anytime soon (hey, life’s too short).
There are four styles and eights colourways to choose from and, with only a small collection available, you’ll be unlucky if you find someone else rocking the same look. They all have a pretty trim added on the front and back – colours depend on the style, but it adds an interesting touch.
My fav is The Boyfriend – a relaxed tunic style with cropped sleeves and a ‘V’ neckline, which could be worn over skinnies and also belted if you’re looking to change the look. I could see myself wearing this loads in Blighty this summer and anything that offers that versatility gets my vote.
If you’re after a more traditional style kaftan then The Alice is more loose and floaty, with the signature trim around the neck, and slightly longer at the back for a flattering silhouette.
The Eden has a tie under the bust and drapey sleeves if you’re after that extra coverage. It’s another style that would work well over jeans with a pair of wedges.
Fickle as I am I could ditch the Boyfriend for the Stella – a nifty dress/cover-up combo. Pop it on over a bikini on the beach and as the night falls pair with a classic denim jacket and some gladiators and you’re ready to party.
So I’m toying with the Boyfriend or the Stella, which one? I would love to say ‘you’re worth it’ and buy both but with kaftans costing £135 – £145 they aren’t your high street prices. What I do like about this brand is the versatility that the styles offer – for summers in the UK or abroad if you’re in search of the sun. Looking for something unique and chic this summer, that’s designed around different body shapes, then take a look at their website – HarperScoutBeach.
